9 Months: Thanksgiving Family Fun

9 Months has flown by.  I need to do some calculations to see when she has spent as much time out as she had spent in.  There should be some week calculator somewhere on the internet.

First let me report: no teeth.  If there were, there would have been a blog about it of course.  Sure she is still “teething” but the act of growing teeth and the act of having teeth are two different sets of Pattersons.

We spent Thanksgiving with Naynee and Addy had a blast.  I was kind of worried that she would be like she was with strangers and just give them that “why are you in my face” stare that causes me to make “she’s sleepy” excuses.  But these weren’t strangers.  They’re family! Everyone got kisses.  Especially the little kids.  They spoke her language; high pitched screaming.

And Addy got to try lots of new foods during the weekend.  I didn’t bother to pack a bunch of purees because I knew there would be some her favorite foods, sweet potatoes, and a few new things.  Her favorite new food is probably dressing.  She grabbed my hand to shove the food into her mouth because I wasn’t going fast enough.  And the piece de resistance was Uncle John’s ribs.

She had a few bits of meat off the bone (because it was falling off) but Brownlee gave her the last of a rib bone and she went to town.  Hilarious.  She loved it.  And then passed out shortly after.

Itis.

But lots has changed over the past month.  She’s gotten into clapping.  A lot.  Brownlee says when Steve Harvey starts the contestants on Family Feud, Addy claps right along with them.  And it’s nothing that actually deserves a round of applause, she just does it cause she can.  Some of soft claps, and some are where she spreads her arms wide open then slams them together.  It’s kinda funny.

There is also the issue of “no”.

She is starting to realize that not everything she can reach is hers to grab.  Especially Mommy and Daddy’s glasses.  I say “no” and move her hands away.  But I have a bad sense of sterness and sometimes she does it so fast and giggles so hard I can’t really keep it together while I’m trying to explain why glasses aren’t meant to be swiped off the faces of Mommy’s that can’t see.  I don’t want to pop her but I also don’t want to be like “Addison I don’t think that you should be running through the house with scissors okaaaaay”.  I know she understands to some extent what I am saying, but we’ll get it together.  A good dose of discipline all around I suppose.

We are also getting what sounds to be close to words.  Sometimes when we come in the room Addy says something very similar to “heeeey”.  And we get lots of German “no”s. (nein nein nein nein).  And very very recently a series of “ma ma ma mama” that sounds to us like “i want my mama”.  I really think she is just practicing and there are lots of things in her head she wants to say that her mouth really hasn’t gotten the hang of forming yet.  She’ll get it soon.  And will probably have a first sentence rather than a first word.

  1. reading this almost makes me want to have another kid. ALMOST!! I love the moments where you can tell the words are coming and they are just growing and learning so much, so fast. I need to stop reading this b/f that baby fever gets me.
