If by some way you didn’t know, I went to the Houston Blogger Symposium this weekend. It was great. I got to meet some great ladies and learn some about blogging. Most importantly, we had free champagne in Hotel ZaZa lol.
Megan, at Greetings From Texas, did a great job on the tables and setup for the room. Nice round tables, place cards, centerpieces, RED HOTS! Vendors were set up around the corners of the room. The view from the 11th floor was AMAZING. She said since she eloped, this was like planning her wedding, except no creepy uncles had to attend.
(yes I am wearing the necklace from my giveaway. duh)
Fortunately Megan set up a full list of who was there. Win.
There was a panel of successful bloggers and how they got to where they are now, then a panel of vendors and how they choose bloggers to work with, then a PR exec who gave the rundown on WHY PR is important.
What I Learned:
Consistency is important. I can’t force myself to do 5 posts a week, but I should strive for a minimum. I’ve been trying for 3, so I think that’s good. But I did get a tip to post them at midnight so people who wake up early (ie, Ariel) can have something there when they wake up. Alright!
I also learned that there is no real formula to successful blogging. I need to have my goals and then meet them. If you put good out, you’ll get good back (that should be a printable). Not just in the blogging world, but in real life.
I should have asked a technical question or two. I did get some deets on Google Analytics, but I did know that people are never happy with their blog layouts. Whew.
So much swag. Scarf, tights, cami, lotion, coupons, earrings, bracelet, mo coupons, A TICKET TO THE WINE FESTIVAL. So. Much. Swag. And Megan is giving away mo swag bags!
Ooooh I hope this is an annual event!!!
Have you ever been to a blog conference? How was it? Did you go to HBSym? Did you love it? If you haven’t been to a conference, would you go? What would you want to learn?
