Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Take 2.

We watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

I was pleasantly surprised.  After reading the novel and knowing that Audrey Hepburn was Holly Golightly, I just knew that the movie wouldn’t be like the book at all.

But big BIG chunks of dialogue were lifted right off the pages of the book.  Of course all the swearing and mentioning of homosexuals and cursing and children conceived out of wedlock were omitted from the movie.  And thanks to IMDb I learned Capote originally wanted Marilyn Monroe to play Holly.  Not saying they could have left all that in there if she would have played the part, but it was noted they made some changes to Holly’s character because Hepburn was playing her.

It was a good movie.  Really good. I get it now, the obsession with Chanel and Audrey and Tiffany’s.

So I might not judge a movie by the book, but I mean what are the odds of that many more Breakfast at Tiffany’s out there?!

I’m actually looking forward to re-reading The Great Gatsby whenever they give the new version with Leo a firm release date.  I know Robert Redford did a version of it way back when but I fell asleep on that in English class cause I actually read the book.

What book turned movie combo should I read next?!

  1. I'll re-read The Great Gatsby with you. I believe it's free on Amazon Kindle version. And the original moview with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow is really good. Mia played her role very well. I wonder if it's on Netflix. I'll have to do some research. Glad you liked Breakfast at Tiffany's, the movie.
