It’s 2015

I’m one of those people who prefer to start things at the beginning of the birthday year, but society and various projects of interest to me start with January and well sometimes you have to go with that. Thanks, Caesar.

Anyway, I completed a Project 365 last year in which I snapped a picture of some sort (DSLR or phone).  It was tedious at most points and by October I was still taking them an just not uploading them, so now I have to go back through time and fill in the gaps (hopefully not with frog DNA) which is painful because sometime in November I got a new phone.  AND to top it off, I decided to do a Project 52 (DSLR only) on Clickin Moms.  I have yet to decide it that will be incorporated with Wordless Wednesday or blogged separately if at all.  But I also know my mom likes to post like “where are the Addy pics” if there’s none by Thursday.

I also failed at my Goodreads challenge last year.  I read 22.5 books and my goal was 30. I mean a book read is a book read, but I probably could have done 30 with no issues.  I finally decided to just stop reading a book if it didn’t interest me. There was a quote somewhere like life is too short to spend time doing something you don’t like, and I’m a sucker for vague hipster fonts over a nice photo so I quit.  Sorry Get Lucky and The Marriage Plot.

Hands down the best book I read was The Night Circus. And I discovered Rainbow Rowell who is fantastic and wonderful and I now follow her on all the social media (see; Elanor & Park, Attachments, Landline), and Roxanne Gay (see; Bad Feminist).  This year I settled for 25 books. And I finished that .5 book Saturday morning (read: 2am) so I’m ahead of the curve.

OH! And I saw this thing where you take a picture of your bookshelf Jan 1 and again on Dec 31 and see how it’s changed.  So basically I will be spending more time at Half Price Books.

The concert gods were good to me and I ended the year with a Spoon concert. And they were fantastic and they got a new keyboard player who was ridiculous!

But I have for lack of better word, resolved, to spend more time focused on what I want to do.  Granted a lot of times I just want to sit on the couch and watch TV.  And I’m ok with that.  A few months ago I had the revelation that I am not an ambitious person.  Which basically sticks me at the top of Maslow’s pyramid thus letting me know I have won at life.

I just want to do what I want to do and not do what I don’t want to do.  In the words of the great philopsher Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter,

can I live?

And I will, but I will also focus on blogging, and coffee drinking, and picture taking.  Shocking right?  But I posted it on Facebook, so it has to happen or someone will dig it up later and mock me for it.

So happy New Year (because they should start on Mondays) and here’s to whatever goals you made or didn’t make or have yet to make and so forth.

  1. Your posts always make me laugh. Also, I think I too am not ambitious. I did write a goals blog post for tomorrow but you're making me seriously rethink my stance on doing stuff.

Speaking of doing stuff, can a food extravaganza happen sometime soonish? I mean I can bring my fancy camera and you can bring yours and Gabby can be the model and we'll take some unneccessary pics of coke bottles or something. It will be awesome.

    1. it's good to have goals. if you're goalsy. i aint. lol. but yay for your camera and yay for extravaganzaaaaaaaaaaaa (in my oprah voice). let's at least schedule some lunch.

  2. You'll be happy to know that I also made a goal of 15 books to read this year. I'm so glad that I've gotten back into reading, and I want to keep it going. Plus, you have also introduced me to Rainbow Rowell, and she has 4 books that I plan to read this year. I also plan to re-read Night Circus, now that you've inspired me to get the book. I sooooo hope that movie comes out this year.

Great article, as always. Can't wait to check out your Project 52!

    1. with the Paperwhite, Goodreads is built in. so as soon as you're done with the book, it rates it for you on Goodreads AND puts it on your Read list. you can also buy books from your To Read list through that kindle store ON YOUR KINDLE.
