San Antonio!

It’s just like Compton fool.

I digress.  (Right out the gate, no less)

So remember that time we went to Mexico for our honeymoon?  Well Addy’s been salty about it ever since.  Not that she even knows what Mexico is, just that we went some where and brought back a refridgerator magnet and she didn’t get to.

Brownlee wants to be one of those families that takes trips every summer so we decided to start off lite and see if we could handle it without 1) losing our minds or 2) going broke.  We picked San Antonio.  A 3-hour trip with enough to do but still like home and we had friends in town.

Friday –

We met aforementioned friends for dinner and the kids got to run around the Market Square while I drooled at pastries in the Mi Tierra bakery.  We were walking distance-ish from the place so Addy got to see the hotel marquee lights and see where we were actually going.

She really liked the idea of staying in a hotel, which I mean who doesn’t for a night or two, but she instantly assigned us girls to the Right bed and Brownlee to the Left. Nobody complained.

Saturday –

Brownlee didn’t do a strict itinerary but did lay out some options along with pricing points, addresses, and items.  Addy wanted to see the river.  I wanted coffee.

So we started off the day at the Pearl farmers market. I got some Local coffee (and a mug, of course), Addy got a balloon animal.  We all got breakfast tacos. NOM.  Except then I saw there was a crepe stand and got a little sad.

After the market, we went back to the hotel, grabbed a map, and headed towards the river for a boat tour.  Fortunately it was overcast and cloudy and we didn’t have to deal with 100 degree temperatures.  Thanks to 1 part Dora and 3 parts sass, Addy navigated us to the river (our hotel was on the Riverwalk)

We should have went the street route because the river winds and we might have taken a wrong turn or two, but we finally made it to the boat, and someone was sleepy and tired, but she stayed up for the boat tour.  We had some room service and cooled off (still Texas summer).  Then we hit the Alamo area.  We learned on the boat tour that some hotels are restricted on height so they don’t cast a shadow on the Alamo.  Because, Texas.

I didn’t opt for the tour because I went that one time in 7th grade.  We just made sure to take some good pictures, and no I didn’t ask anyone to see the basement.

After sno-cones we went into Ripley’s Believe it or Not. So ridiculous.  Maybe because my brain is so desintized I think everything is just Photoshop. I don’t care if it was a picture on the Amazon from 1920. Photoshop.  Addy was marginally impressed by the spinny tunnel and anything with buttons. So I mean, go to Ripley’s if you’re 4.

We went back to the hotel for some swimming and chilling.

Another Mexican spot for dinner.  Don’t care.  Because our rich Texan blood allows us to eat Mexican food several times a week with no issue.  Plus Addy had sopapillas for the first time.  Woo!

Sunday –

I demanded a quicky diner breakfast.  Because the place was called The Pig Stand and it was cute and kitshy with table jukeboxes and wobly tables and old newspaper clippings placed on the wall.  No I didn’t see all that from the freeway, but I could feel it.  Plus I wanted to take this picture.

With our Houston Children’s Museum membership we were able to get into the Do-Seum (San Antonio’s Children’s Museum) for free. Win.  So we rounded out the day with the museum and me and Addy fell asleep most of the way home.

Yay San Antonio!

And yes, Addy got her magnet.

  1. Ha! I love your blogs because I can totally "hear" your voice in them – Dora reference! 😉 Have I mentioned that I adore Addy? Seriously. Y'all can drop her off in the 'burbs anytime and we'll let our sass-full kids run around.

  2. Crepelandia is a great name. Yay for all the Mexican food. I went to that Ripley's Believe it or not a few years ago and I thought it was… not for grownups. Andrew and I couldn't believe how much we spent to get in and see crap we could see on the internet for free. Oh well. Good to know it's still fun for kids.
