So here we are. 5. We survived the party. It was actually really good and when we got home Addy was like “my birthday was beautiful” because she is dramatic and emotive and sensitive. We don’t know where it came from. And while it wasn’t really difficult, that’s why you do things for kids when you can.
Friday I went to take cupcakes to school but apparently I got there too close to ballet time so she was like “ok thanks mom but I already got this cereal bar for snack. That’s a nice cupcake Elsa dress tho.” Shoutout to Target.
Saturday night we went to get her a bike because I will never buy such a long-term purchase without her weighing in on it. Remember when she wore that Hello Kitty robe her entire Elmo party? We went to Toys R Us and I was trying to show her this rocker Tinkerbell bike, but she zeroed in on one and stood on the shelf like “Dad, go get the box” and then we went home.
They started to put it together and someone was in someone else’s way but the bike was assembled with no problems.
Sunday morning she woke up and instantly asked what day it was. All week I’d been telling her that her birthday, and party were on Sunday. She *knew* it was Sunday. I just needed to affirm it. Then she popped up like “it’s time to go.” Twas not. We took the maiden voyage on the bike down the street.
Fortunately the party was at 11am and 4 minutes from the house, so as soon as we got to Monkey Joe’s she took off. Lots of friends and lots of kids and an appearance by Monkey Joe himself. She still doesn’t like everyone to look and sing Happy Birthday but of nobody likes that. NOBODY! No tears though.
Tons of gifts and now we have to clean out older toys for donations. Especially since she saw a Toys R Us giftcard and instantly reminded me of my half-assed promise for some talking parakeet toy. So yeah we hopped in the car and went to Toys R Us. (insert eye roll gif).

My friend just bought the aforementioned talking parakeet for the one year old's party I attended on Saturday and it was a hit, though we never got it talking. Love her bike and helmet and dramatics. Happy five years to all three of you!
you gotta turn it off Try Me mode. everything has Try Me mode now. and only one of them comes with batteries. scam much?!
i told Addy a lot of people on Facebook told her happy birthday and she was like "oh ok cool". lol. which means thanks?!
I can't believe she's five!!! You know i hate Monkey Joes but Pookah loves that place! Love the cupcake cake!
