Fall Goals

Starbucks sent an email like “hey it’s September, so time for Pumpkin Spice.” And while a lot of my eFriends are very very excited, I 1) have never had Pumpkin Spice anything and 2) live in Houston so it will be 90 degrees until mid October.  So I didn’t care.

Until I walked into Target and saw plum and army green everything and smelled the candles and saw the scarves.  So I’m ready for fall.  And my very very new Fall Goals.

“Bre?! Goals?!” Be for real. Here is a list of the TV shows and movies I want to watch this season.

Atlanta

Tuesdays. FX.

Y’all know I love Donald Glover.  I just do.  He has a new show coming out on FX and while the promos are off kilter and quirky, much like Donald, I really have high hopes for this show yet I don’t want to have hopes so high I get disappointed.  I want it to be a show for black kids (in their 30s) that like trap music and Wes Anderson movies.  ME. I WANT THIS SHOW TO BE FOR ME.

Queen Sugar

Wednesdays. FX.

via OWN
via OWN

Ava Duverany has a show on the OWN Network where it’s a black cast and black behind the camera people and it’s starting Rutina Wesley (Tara from True Blood) and I just have to watch it.  Every episode is directed by a woman. EVERY. EPISODE. IS. DIRECTED. BY. A. WOMAN.

Adult children who all live different lives have to come together after a family tragedy to keep their sugar cane farm running.  It’s based off a book by Natalie Baszile, which I might read…after the fact.  I know. Defies everything I believe in.  But shows based off books are their own thing and should not be treated as movies based off books.

This Is Us.

Tuesdays. NBC.

I got teary eyed watching the trailer.  It’s about three people that were all born on the same day and how their birthdays don’t end up as planned.  A lady who wants to lose weight, a guy who meets his birth father, and a guy who’s wife is about to have triplets.  I’m all in.

Better Things

Thursdays.  FX.

I wasn’t a faithful Louie watcher but I watched enough to know it was incredible and while billed as a 30 minute Comedy show it’s way too deep and way to dark to be that.  Well the chick from  Louie, Pamela Aldon, and Louie are together on a new show where Pamela is a single mom trying to raise three daughters and also watch after her mother.

Insecure

Sundays. HBO.

Another black kid just like me.  Issa Rae has a new show coming to HBO this fall (Oct 9 to be exact) and if you know anything about Awkward Black Girl show or book then you know what’s the what.  If you don’t, just be excited either way.

Don’t Think Twice

In Theaters Now.

don't think twice

Ira Glass hosts This American Life and produced this movie about an improv group that gets a big break and stars Gillian Jacobs (Community), and Key (of Key & Peele) and looks super indie and I probably have like 3 weeks to see it before it disappears. IMDB deets.

The Accountant

In Theaters October 14

I’ve always loved Ben Affleck.  Just cause.  No I won’t watch him as Batman (aside from those two seconds he was in Suicide Squad) but this movie? This I will see.

Magnificent Seven

In Theaters September 23.

HOLY HELL I CAN’T WAIT.  We’re gonna go to the fancy ass iPic theater or whatever and pay $30 a movie ticket to eat foie gras popcorn or whatever the hell they serve that makes the tickets that much.  While I can watch a little geriaction movies here and there, this doesn’t seem to be the case with Magnificent Seven. Not only is it Denzel Washington but it’s also Chris Pratt, who can do no wrong. Peter Sarsgaard?! Fantastiscally hateable. Matt Bomer? Beautiful.  I’m excited.

Yay fall goals!!!

What are you looking forward to in the next few months?

  1. I had not hear d about Insecure. Cannot wait to check that out!!!! And I'm definitely all in with Queen Sugar. I was just like you with the commercials for This is Us. Dude from Heroes is in it, and he's a great actor. He sold me in the first 5 seconds!
