Add It To My List – June 2017

It’s the last Tuesday of the month! Time to link up with Lauren and I to share your recommendations for the month.  Anything that you’ve really enjoyed that you would pass on to your friends in real life.  Add It To My List!

Gabourey Sidibe’s – This Is Just My Face, Try Not to Stare
via google books

Bonus points for the audible version
Gabourey gained fame for her role in Precious but since then she’s done several shows (The Big C, Empire, American Horror Story) and movies.  She’s only 34 and I don’t typically care for memoirs of people my own age, especially when they are on Twitter.  But I had an audible credit and I knew Gabourey read the book so I decided to give it a go.
OMG give it a go. While I’m sure her asides and quips are funny in print, she is hilarious and her inflections are perfect. It’s funny, no hilarious, in parts.  It’s also her real life and while it wasn’t all struggle, there were some difficulties she talks about.  Her weight.  Her blackness.  Dad issues.  Etc.
I *tried* to bookmark a clip that made laugh out loud but who knows how to even work apps anymore.  Here’s a link that might work. http://a.co/9pVNJ4J
And when you have time, come back and watch this clip of Gabby on Drunk History.

Polaroid ZIP Printer

Remember how I was like print things! and told you to print your pictures?  Ok so I bought a Polaroid ZIP printer. It’s a tiny printer, smaller than my phone, and doesn’t require ink.  I don’t know enough science to explain it, but the ink is in the photo paper and the photo paper is also stickers. Anyway, you load your printer with the ZINK (zero ink) paper and sync it to your phone.  Then you can print photos and put it in your bullet journal or just whatever else you’d like to do.

Pop Socket

This is 1000% ridiculous but I saw a girl take a selfie at the Norah Jones concert with one and I had to have it and I don’t even take selfies like that.  But I am scared of carpal tunnel and this dealy helps my midnight scrolling.  Anyway it’s a simple button that sticks to the back of your phone.  It pops out so you can grip the phone but at a way that’s natural for you and not just how Samsung thinks you should (droid4lyfe I don’t recognize the others. Ignore the propaganda below).  Anyway, it *does* help with selfies because you don’t need to push any buttons.  You can also use it as a stand to prop your phone up when you’re watching a video. AND you can move it and remove it several times and it still sticks.  It was like $10 at Target and I just had to have it. The tragic irony is that I can’t take a photo of it.

Either way, this is the one I have.

  1. I haven't seen anything that Gabourey is in, but I've heard good things about her book, and it really is always the best when you get to hear that person read their own book! I had no idea pop sockets were easy to remove if you change your mind or something- they definitely seem convenient!

  2. I'm tempted on both the Poloroid printer & the Pop Socket! Memoirs are totally the best in audiobook form, Gabourey seems great in interviews so bet the book is even better.

  3. The ink is in the paper?? SORCERY. I switch phone cases often-ish but I didn't know I could reposition a pop socket. The fear of carpal tunnel is real.

  4. I'm loving the idea of that printer. I take months to get photos printed and then it always seems like such a large undertaking. I might add that to my wishlist 🙂

  5. Drunk history is the hands down best. Hahaha. I'd never seen that one before! The PopSocket things is kind of a little bit genius…. My best friend has one and I made fun of her for it… but now I want one. Lol

  6. I ADORE the Popsocket. My coworker bought one and then I did and everyone admires them but no one else *has* one. Out of the people I see daily anyway. My husband makes fun of it.
    They're great for fidgeting too.

  7. I have Gabourey Sidibe’s book on hold at the library, but I think I need to get the audio verson instead. My mom has one of those phone button things and I didn't know what it was for. I'll be on the lookout at Target now!
