Add It To My List – August 2017

It’s the last Tuesday of the month.  Typically that’s when Lauren and I share our ideas for things to add to your list.  However, Houston and Southeast Texas have been devastated by Hurricane Harvey and as I type this at 9:20 pm on Monday night, it’s still raining and not expected to stop in our immediate area until noon on Tuesday.  We are safe and dry but so many others are not.

So we have decided to compile a brief list of ideas on where you can donate your money.  Prayers are fantastic and I am so thankful for all of the eFriends checking on us constantly throughout the day.  But the region needs financial help because we will be dealing with these effects for years.

Houston’s Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Relief Fund

JJ Watt’s YouCaring Fund

The Houston Food Bank – they accept donations starting at $1!

These are just a few local places.  There are regional funds as well as the national funds that are accepting donations.  And it doesn’t have to be right exactly right now.  Like I said, it’s still raining and we’re not sure when the streets will be clear.

I’ll leave you with some goodness from my fave, Liz Gilbert:

We are still doing the link up because trust me, we do need distractions.  Please use the button below to join the link up!

  1. oh that instagram post. i feel like i get caught up in stuff like that and definitely end up making no impact at all. so thank you for sharing! and thank you for sharing those links. i can’t imagine going through something like this and you can only hope the rest of the country would help if it was happening in your city.

  2. I come from the same place as Elizabeth Gilbert, I actually took a screenshot of that when she posted it and have used it as a comment on Facebook since LOL.

My initial donations were to JJ’s fund and the Rockport Chamber Gofundme. I also sent some batteries and flashlights there via Amazon that are obviously not getting through at this time.

Thanks for your recommendations! Like Kristen above, if you know anyone personally who needs things, please let us know that too.

    Hang in there!
