Untitled Entertainment Post Dec 2018

December was a busy month so I wasn’t watching a lot of stuff. Cause mostly the last two weeks of the year my family was home and up late and that’s my prime binge time.

Look, off top I’m gonna say Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse was the best movie I saw. Of the whole 2018. Granted, it was a low count for me, but still. The Best. Not best comic movie or animated movie. The best. It was a great story, had good throwback to Tobey Maguire Spidey, and most importantly, was a great origin story for Miles Morales. Also, it looks FANTASTIC. Most of the times when a movie tries to do parallel/alternate universes, it gets tangly, but this was done well. I also need some Miles’ Jordans. And hoodie.

Other Movies

The Favourite

I don’t think you can tell what this movie is about based off the commercials. Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) has a beloved friend Sarah (Rachel Weisz) that is her right hand woman and helps her make all of her decisions for the country. Yes there’s the political parties that come to her with options, but Sarah is smart and knows what’s what. In comes Abigail (Emma Stone) that is a disgraced lady of a manor and makes her way to the Queen’s castle to ask for a job and place to stay. Abigail quickly realizes the Queen can be manipulated for her favor. Favour.

Okay so this movie is funny. Deeply dark but very funny. Rachel Weisz and Olivia Colman are phenomenal as per anything they ever do. Emma Stone was surprisingly good??? I wasn’t as annoyed with her as I was with anything she’s done since Easy A. It’s a very…artistic type of director though so be prepared for strange angles. It also ends in a way I didn’t like. But I haven’t let it fully ruin the movie for me. I just make a point to bitch about the ending whenever the movie comes up.

Blockers

We caught this movie cause it’s on HBO and we were at home and not doing anything. It’s surprisingly funny. But like for HBO. It’s ridiculous but funny. Like I don’t see three forty year old parents going through all of this trouble to try to stop their daughters from having sex on prom night. But I did laugh. John Cena is going full The Rock and will be in all the movies doing all the things.

I’ll allow it.

TV

Brooklyn 99 – S1 (on Hulu)

I was watching a Seinfeld rerun and TBS rolled into an episode of Brooklyn 99 so I let it ride and I was cracking up laughing before the opening credits. The next day I set forth on a terrific binge.

Brooklyn 99 is from Michael Shur who wrote on SNL, did The Office, Parks and Rec, and The Good Place. It’s cops and they’re funny and fantastic and I love it very very much. I haven’t had serious lol’s since I started The Good Place. Some people think Andy Samberg is too much cause his character Jake Perolta is basically cop Andy Samberg, but I love him and he’s the only character that had to grow on me (by the end of episode 2?). I instantly loved everyone else. I see why Twitter fought to save this show. It’s gone from Fox to NBC and I don’t see why NBC would make Shur change anything cause literally all the shows I listed are NBC.

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel – S2 (Amazon)

I blew through S2 of Mrs. Maisel. It wasn’t as delightful as S1 was because they have to deal with Midge juggling work and comedy acts but there’s a scene in the first episode when they are in France (no spoilers I swear) and it has to get them nominated for more all the TV awards.

Dassit.

I have A BUNCH of things on my list to watch. Since Brooklyn 99 is regular TV, I have a lot of episodes to watch so it’s taking a lot of my binge time. I just found out about The Characters (2016) on Netflix so I need to watch that. I’m listening to a podcast, Gladiator, about Aaron Hernandez. And I started listening to Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.

What have you been watching, or looking forward to watching?
