And if the Devil Doesn’t Like It, He Can Sit on a Tack

Whew boy everything is shit, isn’t it? Back in the day this might have been a Put It On Your List post, but here’s some stuff that’s brought joy to me the past few months.

Comfort Watching

I’ve been rotating a few shows over this past year. When I went to start Staged over again, I saw Hulu had a season 2 available. WHAT? Okay so I am not thrilled with pandemic-based entertainment but Staged is David Tennant and Michael Sheen playing themselves. They’re best friends and actors and are supposed to be working on this play over Zoom calls while they wait on theaters to open back up in the UK. It’s like 20 mins an episode and it is just hilarious to me. So for there to be a surprise season just really brought me much joy.

My other comfort watches are: Sherman’s Showcase, Good Omens (see above David Tennant and Michael Sheen love), Rick and Morty, Venture Bros, Schitt’s Creek, Better off Ted, Happy Endings (also surprise S3 on HBO Max), various murder and/or cult documentaries.

Pandemilovato

I saw this TikTok video (no I am not on TikTok and will not join TikTok) where a girl called the panny the Pandemilovato and this is now my favorite name for this shit time.

Houseplants

Year 2 of the pandemilovato is the year I pick up the Instagram houseplant habit. In February everything froze and in March when things started to come back to life, the plants I did have didn’t make it. Also a branch from the tree out front didn’t make it and Brownlee found a new love for chainsaws. Anyway, I went to Lowes and to the Houston Garden Center and got some new plants. Reached out to a Twitter girl for a monstera that I’m already trying to propagate. I picked up a snake plant at Kroger yesterday. It’s just happening. I’m buying them.

Books

I’ve been flying through some books lately. I quit Audible but have been hitting Libby pretty hard for library loans. Addy has me reading a comic book, Avengers Assembly, right now. It’s part comic, part teen text, very fun. She got the second one and is very excited to already be on chapter 4. It’s been a struggle to get her to read chapter books so I’ll buy all the comics I have to.

So far this year I’ve really enjoyed These Ghosts are Family by Maisy Card.

Notebooks

“But Bre you talk about notebooks all the time.” Yes obviously. But I’ve found that my memory is terrible these days and I’ve taken to having a brain dump notebook. It’s not fancy, it’s just a pocket Moleskine. I write the date at the top and then all kinds of stuff that I encounter during the day gets written down. A book I saw on Instagram, a tidbit of news, a videogame to try, a murder show to watch, Lucille Ball’s last words. I highly recommend this to everyone. Cause once you say “I’ll put this in my phone” you get sidetracked with phone things.

I also bought this Moleskine I was coveting.

I also bought this Archer & Olive I was coveting.

I also plan to get a Traveler’s Notebook customized at Baum-Kuchen, it might get it’s own post. I should blog more.

Lucille Ball’s Last Words

Her last words, “My Florida water”, were spoken in response to being asked “Is there anything you want?”.
