The Proposal

So if you don’t happen to follow me along the randomness of life on any social networking sites, you might have missed the big news this weekend.

Me and Brownlee got engaged.

Is that the way you say it?  Brownlee proposed and I accepted? Brownlee and I got engaged?  I don’t care about semantics really, but that’s what happened.

How It Went Down

We discussed a staycation for a while but it never happened.  I suggested it, seeing as how we had a free weekend before things get hectic (February and March are busy months for us) we should take advantage of the free time and tax refund money.  Brownlee agreed but then admitted he already booked a room for the weekend to surprised me.  He swore I didn’t ruin the surprise because now he didn’t have to worry about getting me out of the house with a packed bag.

YaYa came to get Addy, and we went down to ALoft to check in.  I opted for a nap.  It was fantastic! We get up, get ready to go to dinner, and then planned to come back to the hotel lounge for drinks.

We’re walking out, Brownlee tells me to wait for him by the elevators, then we’re off to Pappadeaux’s for dinner.  Yum.  After dinner, we head back up to the room to put away my unfinished cheesecake and allow for Brownlee to change shoes.

Open the door and boom there’s rose petals on the floor.  What what?! Sneaky sneaky.  So Brownlee is all “since you knew we were coming to the room, I decided to surprise you instead.  So take your shoes off.”

(Record scratch)

I don’t do that.

But to play along I took my flats off and he got me new house shoes!*

Then he gets down to put the house shoes on and while I’m basking in the comfort of the fuzzy lined slippers, he’s all “Oh I got another surprise…will you marry me?”

BOOM. RING.

twankle & glist’n

“What?  Are you for real?  I mean, yes.”

Lots of hugs. Some tears.  I calm down.  We got downstairs for drinks and decide to wait until in the morning to pass on the word and make it Facebook Official.

So right now I’m just waiting patiently on the mail for the wedding planner/organizer I ordered.  I registered on TheKnot, since TheBump helped me through a tough 9 months.  And Brownlee is working on a wedding website.  Other than I have no idea what’s going on.

I’m sure you have questions.  Let’s go through them.

Hey you dummy, how didn’t you know it was coming?

Well we have never ever gone ring shopping.  So much so that I had no idea what size ring I wore.  Neither did Brownlee.  He just guessed.  Fortunately it’s on point.  My knuckles are giant so it’s a pain (literally) to get it off.  I don’t see it happening often, but then again it’s not supposed to right?!

What are the deets?

I have no deets as of now.  It’s so new!  I just…it’s too much.  I don’t know.

What kind of dummy doesn’t already have her wedding planned?  We live in the web-Pinterest age!  You watch Brideday every Friday on TLC and We Go Bridal Sundays on WE!

I’m actually glad I never had a secret “One Day” board on Pinterest. Cause now everything I see is specific and has an actual purpose.  And the shows don’t really show you anything but crazy bitches and how expensive dresses could be.

So now you know.  Do you have any wedding planning advice?  Do you have a proposal story or post to share?  Let me know!!! I need help.

*this is highly important because my previous houseshoes were also purchased by Brownlee but like 3 years ago and they now have such holes in them that green beans and blocks and stuff can get stuck in them.  I’ve basically been complaining about them being replaced for months.

  1. Congratulations!!!!! How exciting, The Knot is wonderful. The most important thing is to of course set a budget but also remember your wedding day will be about you and Brownlee, don't get caught up in what everyone else tells you y'all should do or not do cause believe me everyone will have an opinion.

  2. Wonderful story to tell for years to come. Can't wait until Addy can hear it and understand it. I especially love that Brownlee spoke to your dad before he proposed. Such the traditional man in this respect. Very cool! I'm super happy!

  3. Great story, Good job Brownlee & so happy for you both! I have tons of planning advice / knowledge & would love to help! 🙂 I'm sure you don't need to be told this, but most of all don't listen to what everyone says you "should" and "shouldn't" do & do what you want, this is the one day that is about the two of you!

  4. Congratulations! That's so sweet! Be sure to hope over to my blog – this month I am posting all kinds of goodies about wedding photography! All things a bride to be should know! I can't wait to see how the story unfolds for you!

  5. I'm so happy for you, Bre! What a cute story too! And hey. Don't feel badly about not having your wedding planned in your mind already. I didn't either, and you know what? It was perfect anyway! Enjoy the engagement bliss, and have fun planning!
