Day 13 – Coming Home (deluxe)

via Leon Bridges
via Leon Bridges

The Who:

Leon Bridges is a gospel/soul singer from Funky Town (Fort Worth if you aren’t from Texas).  Wikipedia says he is 26 but I’m fairly certain his soul is from the 20s.

The Why:

Bella mentioned him and I was drawing a blank for the day.

The Deets:

This is legit soul music.  Like Ray Charles, Otis Redding, soul music.  I did get some Gary Clark, Jr. vibes but that could just be the Texas speaking.  Anyway, the deluxe version of Coming Home is on Spotify so I went ahead and gave it a listen.  There’s many references to New Orleans and Mississippi, but how can you make soul music without them?

Verdict:

I’m going to buy it.  Not that it would be something I’d sit and listen to all the time but I’d be pleasantly surprised every time it comes on my random shuffle.  (Google also tells me he was nominated for a Grammy)

Day 14 – We Are King

via We Are King
via We Are King

The Who:

KING is a female trio of singers.  That’s really all I got.

The Why:

Cassandra mentioned them the other day and I was like “yes who are these beautiful women”.

The Deets & Verdict:

Think…SWV and Brownstone but 2016 and equal parts on the microphone.  If that makes sense.  Really solid R&B . It’s more like one girl singing three parts because their voices sound sooooo good and melodic together.  It was a good listen.  Like chilling on a nice Saturday afternoon chillin.

I was surprised that it was 12 songs because I’d been listening to super short albums the past few spins.
