#NewMusicMonday – Ourboros

Firstly, I got a new computer and went with the Creative Cloud offer, so I have the newest version of Lightroom and the newest Photoshop.  Then I promptly demanded that Brownlee teach me Photoshop and it took me like two hours to make this little banner so let’s celebrate my own personal artistry with my #NewMusicMonday graphic.

With #NewMusicMonth going moderately well, and bloggers like The Good Groupie doing this series on the regular, I figured #NewMusicMonday would be a better pace.  So let’s see how this goes.

Ray LaMontagne – Ourboros

This is Ray LaMontagne’s sixth album but if you haven’t exactly heard of him, I’m not surprised.  I’d say he plays a slow alt rock blend of music.  Me and my mom first heard him on this old commercial where a little dog was dreaming of losing his bone and then went to deposit it into the bank.  Anyway, Trouble was the song playing in the background and we were like “this is a great song”.  I really loved his Gossip in the Grain and walked down the aisle to You Are The Best Thing.  Take some YouTube time to listen.

I didn’t listen to his previous album but Ourboros is a little different from what I expected.  First the track list is only 8 songs but it has a run time of 40 minutes.  It really should just be listed as 2 songs because there’s a Part One and Part Two. The songs blend together, so don’t listen on shuffle.

It’s lighter as far as you don’t get the full gruff of Ray.  He has a raspy voice and usually sings kind of hard but he whisper sings some songs.  Not in a bad way but this album makes you want to sway more than it makes you want to tap your toes to the beat.

I really like it and since I’ve been listening to it for like a week, I consider it a buy.

Also, why do CDs get released on Friday now? I assume it’s because of digital buys but still.
